General RTG can provide complete single source environmental, engineering, and related services to clients. Our expertise over the entire spectrum of environmental services provides us with unique insight to successfully execute complex tasks in an integrated manner . Whether RTG is evaluating water treatment needs, conducting environmental studies, permitting facilities, completing remedial designs, or constructing remediation/treatment facilities, our team is cognizant of all aspects of the requirements which lead to a successfully executed and cost effective task. The following contains brief descriptions of the types of environmental services we have provided to commercial as well as governmental clients. Water Treatment / Management RTG’s greatest strength is our ability to analyze and provide solutions to complex water treatment and water management problems. RTG has had in-depth involvement in several critical water management projects at facilities nationwide. Specifically, in the past several years, RTG has supported the Department of Energy by developing water management strategies for domestic and process water, groundwater, and surface water; completing detailed water treatment system design packages; managing water treatment system construction and start-up; and operating on-site water treatment facilities on a day-to-day basis. We have frequently performed similar tasks for industrial clients and have provided several biological treatment systems to these clients. RTG has provided “turnkey” water management services in support of client at several locations, including the Department of Energy’s Weldon Springs Site Remedial Action Project (WSSRAP) and Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Program (UMTRA). At WSSRAP, RTG completed the design, construction, and start-up of two water treatment trains. In support of UMTRA, RTG completed the development, design, construction, and facility start-up for every wastewater treatment facility required to date at UMTRA sites. We are currently constructing a major waster treatment facility for the removal of metals at a commercial client’s site in Illinois, and are constructing a complete wastewater treatment plant at Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver, Colorado. RTG’s outstanding work supporting water management at several sites, whether it has involved the completion of water management studies or turnkey water treatment system design, has earned commendations from the Department of Energy and its facility operations contractors, as well as commercial clients at various locations throughout the United States. Site Assessment / Environmental Studies RTG has provided complete site assessment services to a variety of clients, including services mandated by CERCLA and RCRA. We have qualified environmental scientists, geologists, and hydrogeologists with extensive site assessment experience at operating and inactive manufacturing facilities, petroleum refineries and ancillary storage areas, transportation and distribution facilities, mining and mineral processing sites, and chemical handling/processing sites. Our site assessment capabilities include oversight of drilling operations, monitoring well installation and development, aquifer evaluation, sampling and analysis, and baseline and compliance monitoring for surface water, groundwater, process wastewater, and soils and residuals. RTG has personnel that thoroughly understand all of the elements of site assessment, including fate and transport analysis and risk assessment. RTG personnel have conducted numerous environmental studies for clients in various industries. These studies have typically been regulatory driven and have included Best Available Technology (BAT) evaluations , Best Management Practices Plans (BMP), Stormwater Management Plans or Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWMP), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC), and Closure Plans. Other studies have been site-specific and have included waste management plans, engineering evaluations, process reviews, feasibility studies, waste minimization assessments, and other environmental evaluations. We have completed these studies following the latest RCRA and/or CERCLA guidance, as required. RTG has trained personnel for implementing site monitoring programs for water, air, and soil. These personnel know all of the required protocols for obtaining, preserving, shipping, and analyzing contaminant samples from sites with petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, organics, and/or radionuclides. Our expertise in environmental studies can be applied to sites with various contaminated media and contaminants, including PCBs, metals, radionuclides, and organics. Treatability Studies and Process Development RTG has conducted numerous treatability studies to determine optimum treatment technologies for different contaminants in various media. These treatability studies have ranged from simple jar tests to complex pilot-scale system tests. The studies have always sought to identify performance characteristics for technologies that are considered to be implementable and cost effective. We routinely develop and implement sampling and analysis plans as part of our treatability studies. Sampling and analysis plans guide the collection of information, which must be collected properly in order to support an accurate assessment of a technology’s performance. RTG uses treatability study data to prepare treatment process flow diagrams, mass balances, and piping and instrumentation diagrams. The completion of treatability studies provides information that is essential to the design and construction of a full-scale treatment facility. Permitting and Regulatory Compliance Services RTG has broad experience in the area of regulatory compliance and has often participated with clients in direct negotiations with regulatory agencies. We can provide services to develop various permits, including RCRA facility permits, NPDES permits, air discharge permits, and radioactive material handling permits. RTG has assisted clients in obtaining permits from numerous Federal agencies such as the U.S. EPA, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In addition, RTG has assisted clients in obtaining required permits from municipal and state agencies. We can prepare entire permit applications or support the permitting process through development of supporting engineering documentation. It has been common for RTG’s projects to require a regulatory analysis. Such an analysis has typically focused on applicable standards governing the discharge of contaminants to the environment via water and/or air releases from RTG-designed and constructed treatment facilities. We have personnel well versed in regulations governing the design, construction, and operations of treatment facilities. This includes items such as compliance monitoring, reporting, and closure/post-closure analysis. RTG has also provided expert witness testimony related to several environmental issues in varying industries. Remedial System Design RTG has extensive experience in designing systems for the remediation of sites, including DOE sites, harboring multiple contaminants in various media. We have conducted remedial designs for sites that have contaminants such as petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, organic solvents, PCBs, VOCs, and radionuclides, including transuranics, in surface water, groundwater, and soils. Site evaluation, regulatory interpretation, treatability studies, cost analysis, and conceptual and detailed engineering design comprise the services RTG can provide in completing a remedial system design project. RTG’s past remedial system design projects have included both in-situ and ex-situ remediation of surface water, groundwater, and soils. RTG has made use of conventional and advanced treatment technologies, always taking into consideration site-specific factors such as effectiveness, implementability, and cost. Turnkey Design and Construction Services RTG’s capabilities in turnkey design and construction services are most evident in our water and soil treatment projects. Many of these treatment projects have required our services in all phases from initial site assessment and regulatory analysis to treatability study development, remedial design, construction, and treatment plant operation. As such, RTG has the experience needed to provide “turnkey” single source service to clients with remedial facility needs. Our combination of expertise in areas of process development, regulatory analysis/permitting, engineering, remedial design, construction, and operations provides clients with all of the necessary elements to complete water, soil, and air treatment systems. In addition, we provide the appropriate level of project management and utilize up-to-date job tracking and cost accounting tools. Facility Operations RTG can provide facility operations and maintenance services through the use of its trained staff, which includes certified treatment plant operators. Operation services can include system start-up and/or full project operations. RTG has provided facility operation services on projects at industrial and Superfund sites. Our corporate operations experience includes operation of groundwater and surface water treatment systems as well as soil and sludge remediation systems. We also manage overall site remediation activities and decontamination efforts for site facilities.
